ITPB 2007 Retreat Information and Agenda

Overview: The day will be comprised of plenary, discussion and break-out sessions. A package of materials accompanies this retreat agenda. We ask that you review these materials prior to the retreat. The day’s topics will include:

• The Office of the President IT Guidance Council (ITGC) Report
• Scholarly Interaction and IT Enabled-Research
• Educational Technology and CCLE
• Wireless and Mobile Communications

Expected Outcomes:

• UCLA response to ITGC request
• The ITPB strategic agenda for the upcoming academic year

Agenda

Noon - 1:30 p.m. Working lunch.

1. Overview and structure of retreat — Alfonso Cardenas (10 minutes)
2. UC Information Technology Guidance Committee (ITGC) Overview Summary - Dan Greenstein, UC Vice Provost for Academic Information and Strategic Services (20 minutes)
3. Scholarly Interaction and IT-Enabled Research — Christine Borgman/Terry Ryan and Warren Mori (25 minutes)
4. Educational Technology & CCLE — Pat Keating (20 minutes)
5. Wireless — Alfonso Cardenas (10 minutes)

1:30 - 1:45 p.m. Break

1:45 - 2:45 p.m. Group break-out session. Groups will each be assigned to address one of the four specific areas below AND to give feedback on the ITGC report. Each group should address these three questions:

1. What is - or might be - the long-range vision, and what are the strategic issues and priorities for UCLA?
2. How do UCLA’s issues and priorities intersect with the UC IT GC planning?
3. What should be addressed at the UCLA level and what should be addressed at the UC level?

2:45 - 3:45 p.m. Breakout session reports

3:45 - 4:30 p.m. Overview on business systems and processes and group discussion.

1. Overview: ITGC Business Process Issues and their Relationship to UCLA Business Planning — Dan Greenstein (10 minutes)
2. Discussion — Led by Mitch Creem, Jim Davis, Dan Greenstein, Sam Morabito (20 minutes)

4:30 - 5 p.m. Wrap-up — Recap of ITGC comments and ITPB strategic agenda
